When a particularly cheeky kea is spotted with signs of lead poisoning near Arthur’s Pass, a team of researchers and locals swing into action to find Wānanga and save him before it’s too late.

Saving Wānanga is a true story that features one of New Zealand’s iconic native parrots. Kea are the world’s only alpine parrot - famous for their cheeky, often naughty behaviour. Some scientists say kea are as smart as a four-year-old child!

Follow Wānanga’s story and learn more about this iconic endangered species and the people fighting to save them. Featuring real-life heroes from Kea Conservation Trust, the South Island Wildlife Hospital and New Zealand Police.
